General Education is now available on Netflix instant streaming! It also appears the Cave Girl is on there too, but I had nothing to do with that :)
General Education just debuted in New York City playing the Manhattan Film Festival. The screening seemed to be a success and a good amount of people came out to the show. I was the only member of PHP able to make the screening, but fortunately my parents were able to come share the experience and snap a photo with me.
Aside from the festival we spent some time exploring the city, and tracked down the theater in Greenwich Village that GE opens at on August 24th :) Tomorrow we set off for Ohio where I will spend the week before returning to Los Angeles.
I get my height from my mom.
It’s crazy to think how fast time flies, and how events come and go with the blink of an eye. One year ago today, I was on set directing my first feature film, General Education, in northern California. Before the first day of shooting it seemed like the film was so far from production. Just one year before production, two years from today, June 20, 2010, 75% of Pelican House Productions (Elliot, Kevin, and I) graduated from Brooks Institute with the dream of making a movie happen.
While I was graduating I couldn’t stop thinking how fast film school went, and that only three years before that I was walking onto a sound stage for the first time. It was also neat because ShipsWreckedCove! just had it’s premiere the same weekend of graduation, and we were already planning the new film.
The year we spent putting General Education together after graduation felt like an eternity. We were constantly driving up to our location for scouts, talking to the community, and getting inspiration to write the script. When the first day of production finally hit it was amazing, and didn’t seem real. I was so focused on going day by day, making sure we covered everything needed to move on, that I didn’t stop to realize how exciting it was to be shooting a movie.
Production lasted a quick 18 days, and at the end everyone seemed sad, but ready to go home. It was an awesome time, and easily one of the best summers of my life. Looking back at it after a year, I am excited to get the next movie going and be directing again in 2013. It’s also exciting to have our official release date of August 24th quickly approaching.
I am excited to see what comes next. Soon I will be in NYC for the Manhattan Film Festival, and then on to the future :)
While we were in Pre-Production for General Education we spent a lot of time driving between Los Angeles and our location in Northern California. When conversation died off after a couple hours everyone would turn to their smart phone or iPad for entertainment. Somewhere along the way I thought it would be fun to download Garage Band and make some songs.
Me N’ Ma Six Shooter is one of the tracks I created. I took some risks, and had some fun. It’s the first song I made, so hopefully it’s a little interesting :)
Played 40 times. When General Education was accepted in the 36th Cleveland International Film Festival we made some fun promo videos to hopefully get people excited. This one in the hot tub seemed to be our biggest hit :)
With General Education about to be out in the world, we have been working hard at PHP to get our second movie TRUCK WORLD off the ground. The film is a bit of a different speed compared to General Education, and we are excited about the challenge of trying something new.
Here is a look at the tagline and logline:
There isn’t a locked production date yet, but we are hoping to begin in early 2013.
